at 200 mph you cover 293' every second. For you drag race guys that's a 1/4 mile every 4.5 seconds.
at 347 mph you cover 509 ft every second. Thats a 1/4 mile every 2.6 seconds

Unsurprising fact. There are no grade crossings on TGV rail lines. every road is either bridged over or tunneled under.

I do give you credit flip, I know you weren't complaining, and as a cold hater myself I agree that I would much prefer the weather down there. But it is fun sometimes to see that the grass is greener on the other side because its planted in fresh manure.

Regarding the hot vs cold, if room temperature is 68 deg, does that mean that 100 deg = 36 deg as far as discomfort distance from norm? or somesuch? Can that kind of comparison even be made?

This one goes out to Flip, for a couple of wintertime conversations...

It has been unseasonably cool here in the DC metro region, with highs only in the lower eighties, going down into the low 60's at night, with low humidity. Absolutely awesome weather.

SO SUCK IT! SUCK IT SUCK IT SUCK IT! SUCK YOUR F&*(ING HEAT and SHUT UP. Because you don't have outside jobs and you DON'T HAVE WINTER!

HA!

The Braid, the 95/695 interchange on the north side of Baltimore, is pretty cool, and like they say, really rare. The photo they have is the interchange undergoing an expansion for hot lanes. It will have left and right off ramps AND on ramps north south east and west. It ups the stacking by at least two levels, and the complexity by a factor of about 4. However, they managed to maintain the original symmetry of the entire interchange. It will end up looking like a complex flower from above. Anyway, I commute through it every day.
But not for long, the Aberdeen job is complete http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/local/harford/bal-md.ha.gate11may11,0,6223844.story and I am off to Tyson's Corner VA to work on Metro.

I was thinking more on this subject. I think, really, nothing is more telling about how things are in the USA. I mean, this is a guy who has made thousands and thousands of dollars over his life from essentially picking through trash.

GAAAHHH!!!
