Pakistan, India are militarizing their border. Basically, the dispute comes from India accusing the Pakistani ISI (their secret police) of orchestrating the terrorist attacks in Mumbai last month. Pakistan denies this, but it's unclear how much control Asif Ali Zadari, the current president of the country, has over the ISI anyway.
In the above link, it's explained that Pakistan is pulling troops off of the anti-Taliban effort on the Afghan border. It probably doesn't need explaining that a fourth war between India and Pakistan would be really, really bad.
Exactly. This isn't going to help things in Afghanistan. This also is going to make China jittery, probably (China has a disputed border with India up in the Himilayas). Also, there is an actual risk of nuclear war.

Without reading the article, which may talk about this, this is a stick in our craw as it were, becuase we want those troops on the Pakistan/Arganistan border to help control cross border traffic/fight Taliban etc.
Now some say that this attack might have been made with just this objective in mind. That is to say get terrorists to attack india, India gets all excited, Pakistan pulls troops away from Afganistan border to beef up Indian border security, life gets harder for coalition forces in Afganistan.
So now the American Diplomatic game needs to lean on India to chill the fuck out?
Whatta mess.
