National Organization for Rare Disorders - apparently some pharmaceutical companies mitigate costs for the (really expensive) drugs that treat rare disorders, a fact not widely known even among health-care providers. If you know anyone who has an 'orphan' or rare disease, and their insurance refuses/incompletely covers the medication, point them to the National Organization for Rare Disorders.
A friend has been paying $250/mo out-of-pocket for a medicine not covered by his crappy insurance; none of the doctors he consulted knew about the program.
NC-- Those articles were really interesting. It could explain why certain ailments have gotten worse (more prevalent) with modernization. You gonna give it a whirl?
Reid- I'm thinking about it, once my traveling schedule have settled down. I'm also afraid I'm too much of a wimp to commit fully to the diet. I like cheese a lot. Mmmmmm.... cheese.

Also, the chronicle has two stories about how a change in diet can reduce the symptoms of some not-so-rare diseases. I just bought a book by the focus of one of the stories and she said that switching her diet not only eliminated her symptoms, but eliminated her need for costly pharmaceuticals and reduced the money she spent on foods to begin with.
